Attendance in Spokane
Thread Created On 3/11/2010 1:17:00 PM

Have any of you sharp-eyed, all-hearing B basketball devotees seen or heard attendance numbers for this years tournament? In fact for last years as well. I've managed to come up with these: 2006 - 18,310 and 2007 - 17,860, but haven't been able to find anything since.

I know! D9 needs to give another berth to D7 to raise Saturday attendance.

Remember when the tourney would get 40,000 for just a boys tournament! Bring back the Boone Street Barn!!!Only two D7 teams did hurt but both were still there on Saturday. Not sure if Colfax has caught the B fever yet. Need more of PeEll type of support!

No question the attendance was far greater in the past, but the 40,000 figures are very suspect.  In those days they cleared the gym after each session and in some years there were 11 sessions.  I believe fans attending multiple sessions were counted multiple times thus giving false numbers.

More evidence of this occurred then they quit the stupid idea of "sessions" a few years ago and a more accurate picture emerged.  From 2002 to 2006 attendance ranged between 27,100 and 29,693.

Probably makes sense - D9 should trade one of it basketball berths to D7 in exchange for a football and baseball berth where D9 dominates more than D7 as of late.

It might be the pocket book being down that is keeping the attendance down. A modest trip from the westside costs...roughly $1500 for a family of four. Fuel, Food, Rooms, Bar bill, Tickets, Arena Food and water (WOW). Not real cheap for 6 days.

TrojanHector,

From the sounds of it if you cut your bar bill by half your out of pocket would have been about 750?

Plus after winning the Gold Ball, I am sure even more was added to that bill! Good thing you drink Busch Light instead of some micro brew.

All said though - it had to be a great vacation for 6 days!

It was one of the best times of my life...aside from my marriage and two kids!
