It seems like such a contradiction for mwpfan1 to boast about hometown pride but they are the ones that wimped out when times started to get hard and merged with another school.  If you are so proud of your school why not play with what you have, go down to 1B, and kick ass there?

Seems to me that two schools have to agree to merge. Suppose you want to play 11 man football instead of 8? What if you want to salvage other programs that would not have the numbers even at 1B?  What if track programs are such that more kids qualify for state if you stayed 2B? (only district champ goes in 1B unless you meet the qualifying standard). What if you want to compete at a higher classification? (instead of moving down to 1B so you can "kick ass" as you so eloquently put it) What if you don't want the cost of your travel budget to go through the roof in order to play a 1B schedule? This way two hometowns get to preserve, although a little different, decades of tradition. "Wimped out", hardly.

OP--
I couldn't have said it any better myself. It's amazing how people cannot see what transpired between the schools. Why is it so hard to understand? OP you nailed it all right on the head.

Stated well OP. The only comment I would add is that by going 1B the new 1B school is going to lose the traditional big
gates that make up the bulk of the athletic budgets. At least around here that is the case in point. As the old saying goes " Money talks. Bull walks". Athletic programs cost money tat some administrators would like to spend on something other than what benefits the bulk of the students.  Just my humble opinion on this matter being bantered about.

OP:

You have made some good points.  I mainly made that comment to get mwpfan1 a little fired up.  I'm pretty sure he coached my kid at one time.

If they want to compete at a higher classification then why not opt up like PeEll and a few other schools do?

I understand your point about preserving tradition (sort of), but I'm just having a hard time letting go of another tradition between those schools and that is their rivalry.

We'll see how it all plays out.

We might not hear from mwp for awhile.... I think the authorities found his source of income last week.

Mistand 7

I fully understand the loss of that great rivalry having been involved on both sides of it all my life. My current teaching school where I used to coach had some real rivalries in the 1A ranks 30 years ago. Now that the schools enrollment is at 2B levels and falling there have been fewer real rivalries in place with some misguided policies in place that caused me to resign all my coaching duties two years ago as they were not in the kids best interest and to be quite honest "Were very unsportsmanlike in their implementation". I am now a volunteer assistant coach at a neighboring school. Heavy on the volunteer aspect. Guess what? I am enjoying coaching once again as I am still respected in that community, District 4 and the state because I put the needs of my kids (athletes) before my own ego. I will just say that my resignation two years back came with a lot of lies and personal slander directed at me for a few months. I let the truth of the matter and my conscience be my guide and rode out the storm so to speak. I am happier than I have been in a long time as a coach and I plan on continuing coaching in this capacity as long as I can and as long as I am wanted. I coach because I enjoy it and the people I work with. As I stated in my resignination letter " My record speaks for itself and I have nothing to prove by coaching here any longer".  I am only giving back to sports what it has given to me. Am I glad I resigned in this particuliar situation? As we say back home"Ya Betta". Take care friend. Hopefully I will see you somewhere down the road. The Nickster :)

Honch--

You're sooo clueless. Weed? Really? I have never gone there and never will. That's insulting. As a life-long resident of East Lewis County, I would never stoop so low as to grow pot. Any self-respecting East Lewis County resident would never do that....we would cook Meth. Anyone who has ever been here knows that. Get your facts straight Honch, before you make me angry...I haven't slept for four days and I'll come looking for you. hehehe I crack myself up.
