He did trasnfer out of Granger. It seems to have backfired though. Granger has beaten them both times they played them. By 20 and by 7.

No NO NO!!! His mom and sis didn't move nor was there a divorce or legal seperation so it, from the news articles, was not a bona fide move which requires the entire family to vacate the previous residence.

WIAA Handbook 18.11.2 A: "A student whose transfer is based on a bona fide and immediate change of residence to a new school (district) due to an actual physical relocation of and with the entire family unit to a different residence and preceded by termination of all occupancy of their previous residence."

If the family moved then no problem, the interview in the story at tourneytown.com the Zapiens were talking like the father was renting an apt. in Zillah while the mother and sister were staying in Granger. Nothing against Zapien, it's just that I get tired of the eligibility rules getting hedged, fudged and down right ignored. I'm an open enrolment supporter and so I think a kid should be able to attend school where they want and not suffer ineligibility for it but I also think rules are rules and should be followed. Anyway, I don't mean to pick anyone out in particular and have nothing against Zillah or Zapien.

I agree col-pul. It is frustrating. I was over very near there recently and many people (players/coaches) expressed some discontent over Zillah's constant (ahem) influx of previously out-of-district athletes. According to some people of neighboring school districts this seems to happen often. Apparently mostly before the students start their freshman year.

"Apparently mostly before the students start their freshman year."

As long as they either attended eighth grade in the district OR play JV their freshman year that's by the book and I won't complain about that, fair and square. The rule sucks IMHO but it isn't "play fair" if some don't follow the rules. I don't know that any Zillah transfer hasn't been bona fide so I'm not accusing them in particular, just saying there's been a lot of mail box transfers in the past.

I’d implore coaches, ADs and those who affect the school’s sports culture to put ethics above advantage. Kids will be kids but that doesn’t make adults not responsible.
