Leon Washington looked pretty good. Our defense looks pretty bad. Last I heard Okung has a high ankle sprain and those can take a long time to heal.

I was listening to Mike and Mike the other morning and they were both pretty high on the 9ers. Mike had them going 12-4 and Mike had them 11-5 respectively.

I think the Niners cruise through the NFC West with the only question for any kind of challenge will be if Leinart has finally come to meet his potential or turns out to be a total bust. I too have the Niners at 11-5 to 10-6 and the Cards at 9-7.

The biggest issue for me with Okung was he just wasn't able, physically or mentally I don’t know, to get on linebackers in the running game. He spent some time on his hands and knees fumbling after his intended blockee. He looked a little better in pass protection but will need a lot of help on down-distance dictated throws, at least a chip block to protect his inside, but in the run game he looked slow of foot and unable to establish the block. I’d have guessed the opposite, that his long stride slide would be a bigger problem than his ability to get on defenders in the run game.

The real threat from the Cards will be Derek Anderson because I just didn't see anything from Leinart. Ya Fitzgerald is huge for the Cards but Leinart was slow with his reads, not overly accurate and didn't look comfortable in the game. He looked over his head in a pre-season game with vanilla offense vs. vanilla defense. Anderson on the other hand looked pretty good, not great but pretty good. He missed a TD pass but, and this despite Jaworski’s little rant, he made a great decision on the third and goal putting the ball behind the receiver and NOT putting the ball on the belt buckle. If you look at the replay the quick slant route was jumped by underneath coverage and there’s a pretty good chance throwing where Jaworski said would have been a pick six.

Been gone for a few days. I knew CP and Honch would be hating on my Hawks. Our Defense looked pretty bad. There is no denying that. However, our 1st string offense didn't look too bad. #8 stayed upright and finished with a 120 passer rating. So for all of you hating on our pass protection, that should quiet you. Our run offense wasn't great. However, Leon seemed very explosive and finished averaging just under 5 yds per carry. We went toe to toe with a team that considers itself to be SB contenders out of the NFC. Not too terrible for a team Honch thinks will be lucky to win 3 games. Satuday vs. the Vikes should gve us a nice litmus test. The 3rd preseason game is always the best one.

For all of you high on A. Smith..9-13 for 88 yds....man he's setting the world on fire. 1st string offense scores 1 td. Maybe I'm watching a different 49ers team than you guys. I wasn't that impressed.

I knew what you meant and one thing I do respect is when someone is big enough to correct themselves.

No bet from me!

I still contend they can finish with 7 wins but that is only if the stars and moons of the entire solar system are aligned just right during a bunch of games.

I think the O will be allright if Hasselbeck can stay healthy but the D is looking not so good.

Still a lot can happen between now and January so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
