Rockets smash at 8-way
Castle Rock dominated the competition at the Warrenton, Ore. 8-way wrestling tournament on Saturday, sending all 11 of its wrestlers to the finals and claiming seven first-place trophies.
"I felt we were in better shape than most teams and a lot more aggressive," Rockets coach Joe Godinho said.
While advancing to the finals, 10 of 11 CR wrestlers won their semifinal matches by pin. The Rockets had 245 points, well ahead of second-place Ilwaco (148.5). Wahkiakum was fifth (90).
CR's Marcus Deyo took first at 119 pounds and was named outstanding wrestler of the tourney in the 103-140 weight range. Teammate Kyle Godinho (first at 145) was named outstanding wrestler for the 145-285 range.
Rockets Jordan Booth (112), Dalton Gonzales (130), Levi Godinho (152), Levi Shipman (171) and Ryan Ward (189) each won their weight divisions.
Carson Horton (103), Kris Erdelbrock (135), Taylor Harriman (215) and Kyle Orth (285) finished second.
For Wahkiakum, Blayne Edwards was first at 112. Ben Miles took second at 140, Mason Mackey was third at 119), and Jesus Crawford (112), Nate Cothren (145) and Adam Vasion (160) each took fourth.
The Mules visit Adna on Wednesday while CR hosts Union on Thursday.

Pomeroy's Reisdorph beats Oregon State ChampHEPPNER, Ore. - Austin Reisdorph of Pomeroy defeated a 2010 Oregon state champion as the Pirates pocketed several wrestling wins against three Oregon schools Thursday.
In one of Reisdorph's two victories on the day, he took a 9-2 decision over Irrigon's Wade Aylett, the defending Oregon 2A champ.
