Pretty much demonstrates why I do not like All-Whatever Teams...especially AP.  I do not like to put down players mentioned while naming ones we think should be on there.  This really was not close.  There are two names on the AP list that were on the list I sent to PG for the bsports.org All-State list to be released sometime. 

With all due respect to Hailey as she is good...consider this; she had 5pts and 4 rebounds v White Swan at the end of the first half and 2 points and 3 rebounds v Reardan.  I am sorry, POY should score and rebound on everybody!  I do not have the other stat sheets for Darrington at State or their season, and I know this AP list is not the All-Tourney team, rather the All-State Team...

doug,   i believe haley was in the twenties against white swan and double digits on rebounds.  as in most years there are several players that deserve the honor of player of the year and good arguments could be made for each one.  unfortunatly only one gets the honor.  haley's numbers for the entire year are pretty good.  i congratulate her.  it is a reward for lot of years of hard work and sacrifice.  congratulations haley!

Hey Kevin,
I know several people were posting that the "official" stats were off for the State Tourney and those are the sheets that I have...again, still demonstrates just one of the factors uncomfortable in this type of "honor".

The stat thing bothered me.  There is off a little and then way off.  Just could not believe it was that far off...it wasn't...half-time stats for Darrington and WS.    I do not have the final stats for that game.  The Reardan game stats are the final game stats reported for the semi-final.

My list had 10 other gals listed that are not on the above list.  6 on the above list were not on my list.  Yes, congrats to Hailey.  Anytime we make a list, some are missed and others may or may not belong.  But to have people choose players and see very few games at the 2B girls level......

Yikes...interesting overall selections.

POY Wales is one of multiple good choices. Perhaps not the most overall skilled basketball player in the state at the B level but remove her from the Loggers and they do not make the tournament. Truly a kid who had a huge impact for her team during her career. She could start and would contribute well for every B team in the state. Congrats Hailey!

Well that narrows it down to thirty or so players figger'n 16 teams made State and most of them had two players that were critical to them making it. If by Tournament you mean the finals then the number remains about the same. Take Reardan, they would have made the 16 with just Moos but I'm not sure they make the finals without Flowers and Moos.

I'm not saying Wales doesn't deserve the honor but it's an honor of opinion so it's awarded not won. Personally my HO is that Moos was MVP of the tournament, and granted I didn't see the tournament first hand, and Taylor was PotY, granted I didn't see many of the candidates this season.  However, I'm not sure my less than fully informed opinion is any worse than the AP voters.

Col...just curious why you would feel compelled to minimize the accomplishments of a player you liley have never seen play? Would it not simply have been better to espouse the virtues of those that you have seen play?

I'm not minimizing her or her season; "I'm not saying Wales doesn't deserve the honor but it's an honor of opinion so it's awarded not won." Further, I noted that my opinion was in large part grey ignorance and noted that so was the AP's. That's what's tough about these threads as Doug pointed out, how do you complain about the authority and prestige of an award without being insulting to those who got it? 

I was minimizing the AP's authoritativeness. BSports' list is like the Grammies while the AP is like the Junos. Seriously, no Moos or Flowers? Seems even with my half light ignorance that one or the other is easily one of the top seven players in the state.

Also one does not win an award in the true sense, awards are awarded. No one says that Reardan was awarded the championship because they weren't, they won it. I guess you could say so and so won the vote for an award if that's your quibble.
 
Maybe we should start a different thread about the validity of the AP instead of doing it on the same one as the list. Every time this seems to happen and I don’t believe anyone is trying to diss on any of the kids who were honored.
 
Anyway, my intent was not to diss on anyone on the list. I never said anyone of them wasn't deserving.

When AP submits these lists, I would like to know the number of writers eligible to vote and which ones did.  A disclaimer of sorts.  The way it is done makes it look like all of AP is in agreement...kinda...
