Lake Roosevelt loses to Summer 58 to 43. Egbert had to leave at the end of the third quarter due to a cut over the eye. Hard fought game against a Sumner team with a lot of height going for them. It was a single digit back and forth ball game up until LR lost their big man. They still made a game of it for a while but ultimately the height differential was too much to overcome.

All in all a good tournament for the Raiders.

 Small,
LR is always a slow starter. They lost to Freeman last year as well and Okanogan was bound to get a win against LR sometime. Heck they had not beat LR in ten years and that included most of that time in the same league and playing each other two and three times a year.

And the complexion of the team has changed dramatically since the Okanogan game. New point guard and a new change in team chemistry. I really like watching this new look Raider team. Win or lose they look to play really fast and fun team ball.

More on the Bear Creek win over  South Kitsap from the Seattle Times...

For the first time in WIAA basketball history a 2B school has beat a 4A school; Bear Creek Grizzlies defeat 4A South Kitsap Wolves (75-60) on Wednesday at the Bellevue College Holiday HS Tournament. The Grizzlies were led by sophomore Luke Blankenbeckler with 16 points and senior Lucas Fernandez with 15 points. Come cheer for the Grizzlies on Thursday, 5:15 PM, at Bellevue College as they take on the Inglemoor Vikings

I really question the accuracy of the Seattle Times claim here about this being the first time a 2B team beat a 4A school.  In the early 1960's classications were B A AND 2A.  During this time frame the Class B Morton Huskies beat the Class 2A Bethel Braves a few times. Granted Bethel was a new school at the time but the classification difference was the same. Maybe the SeattleTimes should put an asterisk next to this current story of theirs just like we do with five different javelin records  due to five different sytles of Javelins being used since 1980 to the present.

1962 Morton Huskies were the state B champions.
1968 Bethel Braves 2A state champions.
This was in the era before the shot clock and three point arc. NN

The report is correct. There hasn't been a 2B over a 4A School. Now there have been the smallest over the largest in history but back when peach baskets were used.

Ha Ha funny. No peach baskets, no three point line, no jump ball after a mad basket, and no narrow key.  All of these were gone by the 1960's. Fundamental team basketball was very much alive and well however. I am beginning to wonder just how much older I am than most of the posters on this blog. I am beginning to get the impression my sports era was over for a decade or two before most of you all were even thought of. LOL   NN

Coach your era isn't over, it simply transcends all of the others.

Nasty Nick

I don't know much about the older school classification system but I suppose the way to compare would be number of students- South Kitsap has 2500 kids in grades 9-12, Bear Creek has 250 in grades 9-12. It is not so important if it is really a record though.  Win or lose, Bear Creek benefits from the opportunity to play teams outside their league.  Bear Creek finished out the Bellevue tournament with a loss to Inglemoor(4A) 64-42  and then a tough double overtime lose to Nathan Hale (3A) 61-56.

Mortons enrollment for grades 9-12 was around 165-170 in the Early 1960's. Bethel was a new high school built aound that time and they soon became the largest enrollment in the state. Good luck to your TEAM this year.   NN
