Colfax has improved all year long.  They have put together a nice package of offense and defense for special situations each time out.  The defense has really stepped up...deep into the bench as well.  Now they get D-5/6 #4 next Friday at Mt. Spokane.

Both boys games today were really tight...competitive.  Some are saying they are not as good as the past.  It is 2B folks and pretty good.  Broncos lost the loser out game to Davenport Wednesday I think and by 2 points.  Davenport gets by Reardan by a few and now face NWC which they have played tough.  Loser out, winner plays #2 from D-5/6.

Does this mean the WIZZ was maybe a little bit right about D7...no dominant team this year and maybe the league was a half-step slower than in the past? (This is a question, not a statement.)

Good Win for Colfax boys last night. The key for them was their Team defense and plus getting double digit scoring from all 3 in Gfeller-Johnson- and Beraducci. I thought this was the differance in this win over NWC.Their role players also played with offensive patience and a lot of defensive energy. A great win for Reese Jenkins and their program. It will be interesting to see if this propels them into more consistent play from this point forward. Beraducci took some hard shots last night and has to be pretty sore today. He played really tough vs those bigs of NWC!

I believe the key thing that gets overlooked all the time, thats clutch players, some teams have them some don't! colfax has always had kids that stepped up in pressure big games! We watch teams and look at athletic ability but don't always see the intangibles that seperates them on the big stage!  That is why some good athletes are starting spring sports and some are marching on!

Cougarbart-  while Always isn't a word I would of choose to use for the boys basketball program assessment long term I have always respected the work ethic most the Colfax players have. This group seems to respect one another and appreciate and value what Reece is teaching them. In addition Gfeller is a high IQ Point Guard who understands things such as rhythm, tempo, and the flow of games and adjusts his play accordingly to what the opponent is doing. High IQ Point Guards will take you a long way in HS athletics! Look at those 5 State titles NWC had the last six years and you will see they had a high IQ Point Guard who did the things that Gfeller is doing for Colfax this season. Look at the Reardan girls team and you see the same thing. Just my thoughts.

lol!i didn't mean always, i was trying to spotlight kids that control the tempo and game! and yes the point guard is usually who does it but they also usually have the ball for a majority of a possession!

cougarbart...I'll bet that the vast majority of state title teams have a PG that fits your description.

Nope, no disagreement here. I will save that for UM and football next year and our debate regarding skill players vs. linemen.

Plus with the really good guards you can trust them with the ball that much too!

Way to go Bulldogs it was obvious you wanted it more.  Some gritty performances turned mis-matches into advantages.

What I thought Colfax did this game that created the opportunity to come out on top was defensively they didn’t let NWCc get an offensive flow. Cutters had to cut around rather than through, passing lanes were altered so that the receiver wasn’t getting the ball on sport on time and even screeners often had to fight to get to their screen. NWCc just couldn’t consistently find the holes in the defense for their inside out game to be it’s normal machine. Inside NWCc had to fight just to get down or across the lane and then they’d get the ball off their normal position and when the ball went back out the pass had to either be lobbed or the perimeter receiver had to change spots because Colfax wasn’t conceding the passing lane.  I think that gave Colfax confidence and momentum offensively, the pressure to score every time down the court wasn’t there so they could play looser and a looser player is more energetic. That really showed in the 3rd quarter as Colfax went up and weren’t going back down.

Nice blend of physical basketball and energy by my Bulldogs. I got some eye rolls early in the season when I said I thought this Bulldog team would be better than last years. Maybe not as much talent but excellent chemistry and while maybe the pieces aren’t as big as last season they seem to fit together better this season.

And I do not think this says as much about NWCc as it does about Colfax. NWCc is still a monster and I’d bet they have some adjustments they’ll be working on. I still don’t think Colfax could beat the Crusaders in a series but this isn’t the NBA and you only have to win one.

You know, while I didn't see the game @NWCc this game through three wasn't that much different than the game in Colfax. The difference really was that the game in Colfax when Colfax gained the lead I don't think they really knew what to do  with it and maybe started playing the scoreboard a little. This game they just played their basketball all the way throught the buzzer.
