RE: Most Titles Won by "B" Coaches Posted 3/4/2012 6:16:00 PM
A tribute and congrats to Coach Ray Ricks, NWCc. He has a combined 24-2 (92%) state tournament record (B/2B) since entering the head coaching ranks in 2001. During that stretch, four teams made it to a state B/2B championship game a second time (St Georges/0-2; Sunnyside/2-0; Republic/1-1; Wahkiakum/0-2). Ricks has gotten there six times, not counting the '04 1A lost to Brewster. He has a 5-2 1A/B/2B title game record. Since '04, NWC has earned one 3rd, two 2nds (one in 1A), and five championships. Ricks won four straight championships, breaking the B record of Brewster's three-peat, and it's a record for all boys classifications. The 22 straight NWC state tourney wins broke the previous record of 13 by Brewster, which was set during their 82 game winning streak. Our state tourney win streak ended last night, and I'm not sure we, or anyone else, will come close to those unimaginable records for some time to come, especially w/the current three game format. As a rule, many don't like dynasties...that is, until their team turns into one. I'm an NWC fan for 27 yrs. Ricks record suggests he is one of the most accomplished ever. Just like Colfax earning the ring last night, performance speaks for itself. Thanks for the memories, Ray.
