Granted Ichiro is on the down hill side of his career but couldn't the Mariner's have gotten a little more for him had they traded him earlier in the year? I rarely tune in to watch M's games but thought I would today to check out the fanfare. Did anyone else catch the in game interview with the M's G.M. J. Zduriencik explaining that the trade was out of respect for Ichiro and that the Mariners organization wanted to put him on a contending ball club per his wish? That interview solidified my distaste for the Mariners. What a defeatest attitude! I get the whole giving the guy his wish in the twilight of his career move but my goodness. There was not a word mentioned about wanting to get the M's in a position for contention any time soon. My wife summed up the interview pretty well by saying "it sounded like the Yankees are always good and the Mariners don't really care to be good so we might as well give the guy what he wants." I would like to someday once again root for the M's but I just don't see that happening any time soon.

I think Ichiro saved Z on this one. We have the second worse record in the AL and one or two players with true major league talent on the entire team. I wish Ichiro the best and will root for the Yankees to win a World Series this year.

Thank you for the memories Ichiro.

In Z we trust my ass, drop the M's down to triple A where they belong.

Two minor league pitchers for Ichiro.

How did Ichiro save Z?

By requesting to be traded. If he hadn't Z would have signed him to a three year $45 million dollar deal. (wether he wanted to or not) And that would not have been a good move for this young team. They aren't going anywhere and this will allow Casper Wells more playing time, one of the bright spots on this team.

Despite all Ichiro has done for Seattle it was time for them to part ways to allow the younger players to develop.

Ichiro was the only thing bringing any fans to Safeco.....

Dealing Ichiro away for nothing is not an alternative to signing him for $45 million dollars. That argument is mind numbingly stupid. Sorry :(

Jack Z is simply organizing the team to sell. That is all. No GM can be this freaking bad.

He's busted on every draft pick. Every trade has been abysmal. I just wished his bald head signified he was dying of cancer.

The destruction of the M's is on purpose. Even Bill Bavasi would make a "not a team devastating" trade every blue moon. People bad at their profession catch a break once in awhile. Jack Z is destroying the Mariner franchise on purpose. Once he realized he doesn't have what it takes to build a competetive team, he threw in the towel and went a la Baltimore Orioles.

I say..... sell the team and move to Oklahoma City!

Let's have this $517 MILLION dollar facility be used for high school championships and soccer games no one cares about.

Seattle deserves it

At least they sent Smoakamotive down.  It use to be the Mendoza line, batting 200 that was the standard for bad.  Also named for an ex-Mariner.  Smoak now has the Smoakamotive line 189.  Go Carp

I know.... My emotions got the best of me there. The M's have been a loser for nearly a decade. There is no reason for it.

I'm sick and tired of this franchise being run by nincompoops.

Ouch, looks like the Yankees need a 3rd baseman right away. I hear they are in talks with the Mariners for Chone Figgins!

The Yanks are far too wise to even think of going after Chone. They only take Mariners who are able to play baseball. With that said, they can have Ichiro as far as I'm concerned.

Mind numbingly stupid Honch? We are not talking about how you have gone through life. We are talking about the Mariners spending $15 million a year for the next three years on Ichiro when they could go out and get two pretty big bats for the same price. Who the hell would have traded anything better for him? Get a clue.

Anyhow, how about them M's?

They've won seven games in a row, eight of their last 10 and 14 of their last 19. Since the All-Star break, their record is 14-6, and they have won four of six series.

Carp is hitting .458 with a 1.148 on-base-plus slugging percentage. He also has scored six runs and collected five RBI. He joins shortstop Brendan Ryan (.450 average) as the hottest Mariners the past seven games.

The Mariners are now 8-1 since Smoak was sent down.

Vargas is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA during this streak. During July, he was 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts.

Ackley's past seven games: .321 average, .923 OPS, six runs scored, five RBI.

7 wins in a row against the AL East and Central cellar dwellars. Baby steps, right???
Let's see how they do against teams that are above .500 in the next three series,
and on the road no less. If they win even 1/2 of those, it is time to start getting excited again.

NOT INCLUDING THE LAST YANKEE SERIES.

the 7 games before the yankee series with ichiro the total attendance was 120,000 and change

the 7 games after the yankee series without ichiro the total attendance was 147,600 and change

Ichiro who?

IMO the mariners are becoming fun to watch with all these kids running around.....its time to send ackley down for a dose of real world.

I don't think Z is the issue. I think the issue is above Z. Imagine if these record profits the Mariner's owners have been turning the last 4 years would be turned into a payroll. Hmmm. I'm sure that success isn't as important as Mr. Lincoln getting that extra get-away house.

Sorry-but until the people above Z go away, I'm putting on my Dodger costume (and not making my yearly apperance at Safeco). Maybe we'd be better off with Clay Bennett....at least there'd be no misery to live through.
