Asotin hosting 4A Moscow, Idaho in a nail-biter...
Asotin 6
Moscow 5
Starting pitcher for Asotin, Junior Seth Morton threw 5 full innings, leaving with a 3-5 deficit, as Moscow came out swinging attaining 8 hits. Asotin Freshman Aaron Trimmell, took the mound to start the 6th and held the Bears hitless as the game was tied in the 7th inning with a timely 2-RBI triple by Senior Avery Hurst, and won on a game winning RBI by Senior Robert McIntosh in the bottom of the eighth.

LRS Broncos swept St.Georges today in Ritzville 10-0, 11-0- both in 4 1/2 innings. On Saturday LRS beat Kettle Falls 12-1 in the 1st game in 5 innings, then lost their 1st game of the season 5-1 in the second game. LRS is leading the Bi-County at 7-1, 10-1 overall. NWC is in 2nd with 2 losses. Looks like a few teams are bunched together after that in standings currently.

Lake Roosevelt over Liberty Bell 1 - 0.
LR was missing two of their top three OPS guys and their Ace pitcher (Black) due to injury. The Raiders had to gut this one out with some bench players and thankfully the most experienced arm in the league (Carlson) pitched a gem.
If the Raiders can get Black back they should have the top two pitchers in the great white north.

Thanks PO. Yeah, the game vs. Moscow was really a good one. To gut out that win really says something about the group of kids we have. It is hard to figure out where we are really at until a match up like that. We should know more this weekend with our double header at Liberty Christian. Good luck with Dayton tomorrow, let us know how it turns out. I look forward to our match-up the first week in May, then probably again the second week.

Game 1- Liberty Bell 6, Lake Roosevelt 5 Andrew Ryan throws three hitter, Shane HIgbee triples to lead off the 7th, Chase Kurtz brings him home for the game winning RBI with no outs in the bottom of the 7th for the walk off win.
LB 6 6 6
LR 5 3 5
(yes...11 errors, not a defensive gem by any means)
WP Ryan LP DeWinkler
Game 2- 5 innings on the 10 run rule
LB 10 5 0
LR 0 2 4
WP Higbee
LP Carlson
This game was more about erratic LR pitching, giving up walks and lack of fielding. LR pitchers gave up 6 walks and hit two batters (5 walks and 2 HB in the 5th inning). Having said that, Mt Lion #2 pitcher Shane Higbee had the LR hitters baffled, giving up only two hits in his 5 innings of work.
Liberty Bell goes to the top of the NCW 2B, 1 game up on Brewster and 2 games up on LR. Brewster comes to the Methow on Tuesday for a single game, then a DH on Saturday in Brewster.

Congrats to the Mountain Lions on the 2 wins today. Ryan pitched well in the first game win and Higbee was just as good in the later.
Rangerrick - you're dead on with "erratic LR pitching,
giving up
and lack of fielding." Now time to lock up with Brewster on Tuesday.

Lots of errors for both teams in the first game-but both LRH and LBH battled through all the mistakes. The difference was Andrew Ryan digging in and mowing down the 3 the Raider's sent to bat in the 7th, and then a big triple on great contact by Shane Higbee, and a walk off sac-fly sending Higbee home.
And the 2nd game looked like we were going to have a duel. Carlson looked brilliant, mowing down LBH's first 6, and then gave up a hit in the 3rd who was driven home by a passed ball followed by an E6 on the next play. Higbee gave up 3 hits and forced the Raiders to strand 1 runner in each the 2nd and 3rd.
And then came the 4th inning.
Carlson gave up a single that turned into 3 bases on a big error by the centerfielder. He would score on another single. Carlson then threw a wild pitch, and then did it again on a 3rd strike that put the LBH hhitter on 1st. That was followed by 6 consecutive runs in the 5th that put the cap on the late game 10-0.
LRH does one thing extremely well that will help them later in the year AND quite possibly in the play-offs. They do NOT leave runners on base. The Raiders only left 3 on the whole day-all in the 2nd game. They put the ball in play very well.
Liberty Bell continues the gauntlet next week with Brewster in a single at LBH Tuesday, and then a double at Brewster next Saturday.
I know this may be considered a pair of upsets, but these were 2 very closely matched teams. LRH didn't quite have the gas in the tank today-but they are a good team. If they get Black back and get the rust off before districts-watch out!

Liberty Bell JV played the Brewster JV a couple nights ago.... didn't I see the Higbee kid and a few other varsity kids play in this game? LB won in 8 innings 7-6 I believe. 5 Brewster 8th graders, a couple sophomores, and 2 upperclassmen.... or at least a couple kids who had different jerseys on who were probably varsity kids. So does LB have a jv program or is it a mixture of 1/2 varsity, 1/2 others? Funny you would have your #2 pitcher and best shortstop play in a JV game..... I think the Kurtz kid played in the jv game too.
Also, Smallschool.... I wouldn't consider this an upset...

Yes innocent bystander, you did see a few LB varsity players there but most of them get little playing time in varsity games and none of them were older than sophomores. A few freshman and an 8th grader were playing. They really needed all of those guys to field a JV team and the Brewster coach has asked if they could play the LB JV again to get all the guys more playing time. I'm pretty sure Brewster and LB are the only teams in the league with JV teams. BTW, is this really the first time you've seen JV players who were also on a varsity team?, Especially from a small school... Again, the oldest were sophomores.
Also, LB's best shortstop was not even there!

Beautiful day in the Methow yesterday.
I actually had only two errors for LB in that first game. Ryan did pitch well but what was really surprising was that Higbee really had the LR batters baffled in that second game. Hats off to him.
LR had the first game in hand until a couple of really unnecessary errors. An overthrown pick off attempt at second base ( should have never been attempted) made worse when a nonchalant back up by the center fielder lets ball get by him and roll to the fence.
The Liberty Bell Mountain Lions play too good of ball to be giving them free passes like that and they certainly took advantage and they kept their mistakes to a bare minimum.

Aces. From my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, LB doesn't allow their 8th graders to play..... yes or no? If no, then why was an 8th grader playing?
I understand small schools and realize that sometimes a varsity kid needs to fill a spot on the jv roster for reasons being that, 1. they don't play very much, 2. they don't have enough kids.
What throws me for a loop here is that the 2 headliners for this thread, Higbee and Kurtz, the heroes of game 1 with a triple and a sac fly to win the game for LB played in a jv game. It was said Higbee was your #2 starter and baffled the #1, (at the time), team in the league.
At such small schools, wouldn't you want to save your second best pitcher for games that matter?

Innocent bystander- LB does allow 8th graders on JV just as Brewster does.
LB JV has 1 8th grader, 2 freshman, 6 sophomores, and 1 junior. If Higbee or Kurtz weren't playing there wouldn't be a team. I think it's great that they are able to get playing time for the guys who don't see much action on the varsity...
BTW, After the way LR Mailed In the last 2 innings I wouldn't be surprised if they were just very easily baffled.

I think it's great that LB has a jv squad and am happy that Brewster gets to play quality young kids, I hope the two jv teams play again.
LB baseball has some good things going for it right now and I for one am happy to see it. This league needs way more quality teams to enhance whoever gets into the playoffs chances at winning. To some schools it's just another sport to let your kids have fun.... to Brewster it's a little different...and I'm happy to see the LB coaches competitive spirit come out. It's obvious they want to win and I love it. If I were LB, I would keep the coaches you have, they are doing a good job.
