North Central Washington is going to be looking up a little bit next year. Waterville graduates few, and have gotten stronger the last 3 year. Entiat graduates the elder Southard sister and F Alex Larsen, however returns everyone else of significance, with lots of scoring in the Frosh-Jr class. Pateros also graduates a couple big time players, but still returns a great amount of players that can find the basket and play D. The 2 teams that made it to regionals last year-MLCA and Wilson Creek from NCW are going to have a tough time getting past the 3 teams dropping next year.

There are going to be a couple of very fine games coming next year in NCW1B.

Last Year's Max Preps rankings for D6, 1B "contenders":
181 (in the state): Entiat - lost all everything Mandy Southard
182: Pateros - lost Jamie Jo Bruno and chancy gill
186: MLCA - returns all but 2.5 ppg, on a team that had 5 8th graders and 2 freshman, on it's 9 player roster last season
281: Waterville - returns a number of young and improving players

An opponent common to all teams last year was 2B doormat Manson.

None of the north teams are within 15 points of MLCA (MLCA hides nothing and posts all their info on maxpreps.com, for folks to check out).. Book it. How's that for early summer smack?!?

MLCA's 8th graders (3 8th graders anyway; McKenna Walker, an MLCA freshman herself, did pitch in) did earn their Dru Gimlin title this weekend at the expense of Entiat's vaunted freshmen.

The 3 north teams do figure to be 2-4, however. They'll help make D6 relevant and bolster the depth and strength of eastern WA 1B ball. No question about that...but MLCA has bulked up substantially in their absence. McKenna Walker is the best player in north central Washingon not named Breanne Knishka (Cashmere) or Jessie Loera (Moses Lake HS), and she could more than hold her own with either of them.

The addition of those teams, and even Soap Lake, should make things more interesting though, without question.

FBC-I like the smack this early. All we need now is Col-pul.

To be fair-Entiat has already posted their 12-13 schedule. Some games of note: NL @ Lake Roosevelt. The team they found a way to beat in the opening round at CW2B's.
NL vs Oroville who always has a decent-ish team.
And of course one league game @ MLCA
A home and home w/ Pateros (those should be interesting)

How deep is MLC's bench? Haven't seen/heard anything there. Entiat's bench scored 19 off Pateros in their 2OT W at CW2B's-all returning.
Pateros still returns Lorie LeDoux, which to me is absolutely HUGE this year. A tall guard that can play underneath too. She can shoot from anywhere on the court. Perhaps they don't win the league with that, but it'll be enough to make Entiat and MLC have to get creative down the stretch in a game. Same can be said of Jaelyn Davis for Entiat. 5'7" that can hit from downtown.

No doubt, without R Chr and the Swan's to deal with, Entiat and Pateros should be rockin' in NCW with MLCA. I think one of the 2 teams beats MLC in a close one. They can get it done in crunch time.

It's not D9 or D7, and it hasn't been strong in a few years, so it's probably not going to register on anyone else's radar. Just you and me, big fella!

The Pateros-Entiat finale was pretty impressive, for sure, but a lot of the key players that made that game what it was are gone.

Mortimer does a nice job with Pateros, and there hasn't been anything in the way of drop off since Ellis left. Edwardson does alright with Entiat too. Both teams have really, really strong young players (Pateros, its incoming freshman class, and Entiat its incoming sophomores)...but MLCA's players - Walker, Yarbro, Sandberg, and the younger Yamane, in particular - are a totally different caliber, and Entiat got a glimpse of that this past weekend (no Yarbro, though).

MLCA is young, and only figures to have 7-9 players on its roster at all, although that's been par for the course in recent years. Foul trouble, then, is certainly a potential issue...but very few teams will be able to put the kind of players they will on the floor 1-6. It's a young team (this year's edition will have 1 senior and no juniors), but one that has played as much as anyone in the past 12 months.

Older, tourney-experienced teams such as ACH and SC were able to exploit their youth last year, but even senior-laden ACH had a time putting them away at last year's regional. The only other loss was by 2 to 1A Cle Elum (47-49), in a game that Carlee Creager (she's a legit 6' guard) went off for 30.

All of that being said, no one can say for sure until the ball goes up...

Colfax camp just wrapped up. Participants included LaSalle, Clarkston, Pullman, Granger, Ki-Be, Burbank, Mountain Home (ID), Bonners Ferry (ID), and a grip of others. 1B schools included Colton, Sunnyside Christian, MLCA and Selkirk.

Colton will be the favorites again this year. They pushed LaSalle pretty hard, but LaSalle won in the end, by 6 or so. Colton's younger teams are less impressive than they've been, and you have to wonder if they'll be a factor after another year.

SC is a really, really big team, and they were playing well. They'll push Colton. They're just physically larger than every other team. They probably average 5'9", across their first 7-8 kids.

MLCA played well in spots, went 6-3 during the camp against HS teams, beat some decent squads (Bonners Ferry, Raymond, and Clarkston) and only suffered losses to SCAC squads LaSalle, Granger, and Burbank.

Selkirk was missing a couple of key kids, but looks overall to be way, way down. In an early camp matchup, MLCA jumped out to a 24-0 lead on Selkirk. Selkirk spent much of the rest of the camp playing schools 2nd and 3rd teams.

Word is that ACH still looks good, as do Pateros and Entiat. SJE will be at Eastern this week. Haven't seen or heard of Tekoa-Oakesdale, but they figure to be in the D9 mix too.

BNB @ Soap Lake and EWU team camps are this week (June 26-29).

Pateros has rolled over the bottom tier 2B teams, and then I heard beat LRH and ACH @ ACH. (Not sure if ACH had everyone, but still) But from my eyes up here, they need to start knocking down the FT's, and height may be an issue with Entiat and MLCA. They have 1 girl at 5'10-11", but beyond that it's 5'7", and then 5'4" and shorter.

Ah-gotcha. Never know if what you hear is second, third, or fourth hand, nor how accurate it is.

That appears to be the case. Mount Vernon Christian is dropping down from 2B to 1B, and is in attendance as well. Mossyrock is also in attendance.

This is a solid mid-level camp, this year. LaConner is probably playing the best basketball at this camp, and has closed out close victories against Darrington, Kenai, Mossryrock and MLCA, all with solid freethrow shooting and timely scoring down the stretch.
