Yeah naselle played a good game and they beat our guys tonight but the refs dictated the game and did not allow it to be played out on tallent alone. You know that the home team is going to get a couple more calls but when a kid gets elbowed in the face and they call him for a foul that things might have gotten out of hand. I just would have liked to see the game play out with decent reffing it would have been a good game. Naselle played well dont get me wrong but they were not 24 points better. No sir.

Mossy Inches Closer to Title

Vikings Edge Stubborn Tigers to Set Up Showdown With Adna Thursday

By Aaron VanTuyl

NAPAVINE -- The venue changed, but the result stayed the same.

Just like the first contest between Central 2B League heavyweights Napavine and Mossyrock, the Vikings bounced back from an early deficit, kept the Tigers' top scorer in check and picked it up in the second half for a 39-34 win Tuesday night.

Mossyrock's Austin Knight and Napavine's Devin Carroll both scored 10, but the Tigers shot a dismal 24 percent from the floor to drop to 11-6 in league play.

The Vikings, meanwhile, moved to 13-3 and a game ahead of Adna in the standings.

"It was a great game," Viking coach Chad Mitchell said. "It was just an intense, playoff atmosphere."

Carroll tossed in a pair of 3s and a layup for eight of the Tigers' 11 in the opening frame, but Mossyrock battled back and trailed by just a point at the break.

And, like the previous meeting, the Vikings came out hot in the third quarter, and rattled off a 9-0 run before Napavine signaled for a timeout.

"We just slowed it down to our game, then tightened up the defense and stuck to our game plan," Mossyrock's Scott Wedam said.

The Viks found their fast-break rhythm and stretched the lead to 10 in the third with 3s from Palmer and Wedam, but Blake Anthony hit a leaner and Jordan Brown tipped in a miss at the buzzer to cut it to six to end the third.

"That's our game," Wedam, who finished with seven points, said of the Vikings' transition efforts. "We get a lot of buckets off that."

Things stayed close through the fourth quarter until the Viks called time with 2:00 to play and set up a stall offense, which wound up leaving Knight wide open for a layup with just over a minute to play.

Micah Brown answered with a layup on the other end to cut it back to a four-point game. Mossy broke the press to find Knight down low, again, where he absorbed a foul and hit one of his two freebies.

The Tigers couldn't get a good look on their final possession and Mossyrock grabbed the board off a wild 3 for the win.

"I thought we did a great job the whole game," Mitchell added. "I was proud of the guys' efforts."

Napavine's Anthony, shadowed by Jonah Bradley in a box-and-one defense, was held to just four points, a single digit more than his total for the teams' first meeting.

Knight scored eight of his season-high 10 in the second half.

"He always does the little things for us," Mitchell said. "You can tell he's getting more confident. He was very important for us."

Napavine hosts Morton on Thursday, while Mossyrock heads to Adna for a showdown to determine the top Central seed at the District IV Tournament. The Pirates, whose Tuesday night game with Columbia Adventist was scratched due to snow, sit at 12-4 in league play but beat the Vikings last month.

In the event of any ties in the league standings, a coin flip will be held Friday morning to determine seedings.

Strong Second Half Carries Panthers Past Ducks

TOUTLE -- The White Pass Panthers were able to overcome a seven point half-time deficit and put away the Toutle Lake Ducks 51-43 here Tuesday night in C2B League play.

"We came out and played probably our best half of the season in the second half of this game," said White Pass coach Tony Gillispie. "We were able to run our half-court defense and our offense pretty well tonight."

After trailing in the first half, the Panthers out of half-time with a more aggressive approach and out-scored the Ducks 17 to 7 in the third quarter.

"We've had a bad habit of not showing up and competing. Tonight we showed up to compete. When we do that we feel as if we can compete with anyone. We have to show up every night," said coach Gillispise

Derrik Moody led all scorers with 19 points and was six of seven from the line.

"Moody has been putting in a lot of work to improve his free-throw shooting and it showed tonight," said coach Gillispie

Jordan Sume put together his best game of the season, adding 15 points and shooting seven of eight from the field.

With the win the Panthers improve to 11-6 in league play and 11-7 overall.

White Pass wraps up their regular season Thursday at home against Wahkiakum.

c'mon JF, NB thumped the Comets at home and I heard Naselle people saying how physical the refs let that game get too. sometimes a loss late in the season is good for a team especially after winning so many in a row, now they know they are beatable and have to step it up another notch.

I don't buy into any loss being good, particulary late in the season.

How good can NB be if they lost their own Christmas tournament to a team that finished 3-10 in Sea-Tac?

@ Lebam

Naselle is finished with league games now, North Beach has to play South Bend one more time for thier last league game. If North Beach wins, there is a first place tie, if they lose Naselle is first place.

its being played at South Bend thursday i believe? Is the game tomorrow or friday? ..anyway...losing is NEVER good...it lowers morale. Naselle played one of their best games of the season, and that coupled with one of NB's worst games of the season..and there you go. It is an eye opener. If the HYAKS were getting complacent...and thinking they were getting a free ride....well...now they will work harder. which is a good thing. You can never assume..everything is a done deal. teams are working hard out there. even more so now, with districts next week. All things said...NB is a quality team. Teams cant be judged on games early in the season. Every TEAM has imporoved as the season has progressed. NOW is the time to step up. See you in South bend.

Onalaska 67, Valley 46

Valley was down 11 early in the 4th quarter but played their bench the entire quarter so their two seniors could get some playing time. class act by Coach P. Ony was up 10-9 after the 1st quarter until the Stanley kid from Onys started knocking down 3's, he must've made 7 or 8. They led by 10 at the half and by as much as 25 late in the 3rd before Valley made a run to get to within 11. Good game for Valley heading into districts though. They played well against a really good 1A school.

Overall I thought Valley played ok tonight. they really need to work on their fast breaks. I don't know how many times they had a one on one or a two on one and settle for a short jump shot, which they missed most of. they even screwed up a three on one once. of course, the two terrible charging calls early in the game probably didn't help their confidence in taking the ball to the basket. Does anyone know why Rocket didn't play tonight? He could've really helped on the boards tonight. Ony is a good team, they always make that extra pass to get the easy basket and they shoot the three extremely well.

I know Lebam the game was physical down at our place but they were letting it go on both sides. It wasnt getting called one sided. I think that we actually might have had more fouls than them at our place too. But yes naselle played a good game and we have moved on and are pushed harder because of it.

I think you guys played Naselle 10 times you'd probably win at least 7, last night was just one of those games. Kind of like the Ocosta game earlier in the season. stuff happens.

If Naselle and NB tie, Naselle gets the top seed. They already had a coin flip. In the Central, there's a coin flip scheduled for Friday morning in the (probable) event of a tie for third (WP and Nap).
And Columbia Adventist beat Pe Ell tonight by 3, down there.

Kodiaks Knock Off Pe Ell Boys
BATTLE GROUND --€ŻEarlier this week Pe Ell coach Clayburn Lusk said he was wary of Columbia Adventist, and he certainly had a good right to be.

BATTLE GROUND --€ŻEarlier this week Pe Ell coach Clayburn Lusk said he was wary of Columbia Adventist, and he certainly had a good right to be.

The Kodiaks heated up in the second half and rallied to beat the Trojans 60-57 in a Central 2B League boys basketball matchup here Wednesday night.

"We were up 15 at one point in the third quarter, but then we started turning the ball over and they started hitting everything,"€ŻLusk said.

The Kodiaks hit 17 of 24 shots from the floor in the second half and were 9 of 14 from 3-point range on the night. CA outscored Pe Ell 22-10 in the final quarter to steal the victory.

"We have to learn to put people away when we have the chance," Lusk said. "It's disappointing, but hopefully, we can bounce back and get ready for district."

The loss leaves Pe Ell at 11-7 in league play and the Trojans will have to wait for everyone else to finish their regular season to see where they wind up.

Dillon Skeen led the Trojans with 15 points while Tyler Ratkie added 11.

Pe Ell (13-7 overall) opens district play Monday against an unknown foe at a site to be determined.

I dont know when they could have had that coin flip for the pacific. Was it yesterday? Does one of our coaches have to be there or is it the ADs that do the coin flip.
