MOORHEAD, Minnesota - Little Falls came away with a hard fought come from behind victory tonight after defeating Moorhead 34-33 in double overtime. Running Back Zach Horejsi came alive late in the game and into overtime scoring 3 touchdowns to lead the Flyers to a win.
Little Falls, losers of 21 of their last 22 games going back two seasons, put together a strong running game mixed in with some crucial third down conversions. The Flyers led 7-0 after one quarter, and 7-6 at halftime. Moorhead came out strong defensively to start the half and their offense put together two key drives to open up a 20-7 lead on a two yard scamper by Levi Tompkins and a 1 yard reverse at the goal line by Braden Rahmen. But Little Falls answered back with 14 unanswered points in the final 8:09 to send the game into overtime.
Both teams traded scores in the first overtime, with Moorhead getting an 8 yard touchdown reception from receiver Taylor Burns from Luke Gotta to take the lead. The Flyers answered back on their first play with a ten yard smashmouth run from Zach Horesji.
Little Falls took the ball in the second overtime and scored on another nice run by Horejsi to lead by 7, but Moorhead quickly found paydirt on a 2 yard touchdown run by QB Luke Gotta.
The Moorhead coach decided to try for the win instead of a third overtime in a game where players were repeatedly cramping up due to the heat on the field. The Spuds failed to convert the two point conversion, giving the Little Falls Flyers the win in a hard fought game by both teams. Little Falls has now won two straight games.
