APPLE VALLEY, MN - In Week 3 action, two high schools out of Independent School District 196 battle in Apple Valley, MN. The Eagan Wildcats (1-2, 1-2 LAKE) started the game without regular starting quarterback Jameson Parsons, who broke his collar-bone last week against Lakeville North, but that didn't hinder their offense as they got things rolling on their first offensive position. Zach Zenner, a senior tailback normally, stayed in the backfield as the quarterback for the Wildcats and ran just that, a "Wildcat" offense all evening long. On that first drive, Zenner and the Wildcats marched 80 yards down the field and Zenner eventually punched in an 8-yard touchdown run at 7:45 of the 1st Quarter. The extra-point attempt by senior Greg Seely was no good and Eagan would lead at that score, 6-0 at the end of the 1st Quarter.

In the 2nd Quarter, the Eastview Lightning (2-1, 2-0 LAKE) would take their first lead of the game, by scoring on a 10-yard touchdown reception by junior Frank Veldman from senior QB Jack McDevitt. The touchdown capped off a 75-yard, 5 1/2 minute scoring drive and took a 7-6 lead after Peter Burke's extra-point attempt was good. That lead was very short lived though, as Eagan senior running back Josh Rodke broke off a 67-yard touchdown run on just the second play of Eagan's return offensive procession. Again the extra-point attempt by Eagan's Greg Seely was no good, but this time Eastview blocked the kick attempt. At halftime, Eagan led 12-7 on another fantastic evening for high school football in Minnesota.

In the 2nd Half, Eagan's lead would be taken away for good, as Eastview's offense would start to roll on the ground and through the air. Senior Lightning running back Peter Burke swung the momentum of the game in Eastview's favor after multiple first-down pickups and finally a 4-yard TD run halfway in the 3rd Quarter. After three, the Lightning would lead 13-12.

The 4th Quarter would see two touchdowns a piece by each team including to touchdown runs for Zenner, the first a 1-yard goal line TD carry and the second an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play after an Eastview touchdown by receiver Karl Otto from McDevitt. On Zenner's 1-yard touchdown carry, the Wildcats had an opportunity to tie the game at 20, but they failed to convert a 2-point conversion as Eagan wide receiver Jacob Westphal fell to his knee's after making a catch just two yards short of the goal line. The final score was 27-25 Eastview and the home fans were treated to some early evening football in the midst of a four week straight home-stand.

With the, Eastview moves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Lake Conference. With the loss, Eagan falls to 1-2 overall and in the conference. Next week Eastview will host Bloomington Kennedy and Eagan will host Apple Valley. Both games will be at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 25th.
