MOORHEAD, Minnesota - The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm survived a late rally by the Moorhead Spuds tonight to move to 4-1 on the season.

On a cold, muddy night at Jim Gotta stadium in Moorhead, both teams tried to get their ground game working early and often but neither could find the endzone until late in the first half.

Moorhead drove within the Storm 5 yard line twice in the first two quarters, but QB Brooks Miller was intercepted at the goal line by Sauk Rapids' Nick Weis on an apparent 100 yard interception return for a touchdown. The play was called back after a personal foul call on the return went against Sauk Rapids, bringing the ball back to their own 7 yard line with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.

Sauk Rapids then quickly drove 93 yards down the field, capped off by a 50 yard touchdown strike from QB David Kroger to WR Cody Meyer with 44 seconds remaining in the half.

In the second half Sauk Rapids established their running game, eating up chunks of yardage and dominating the time of possession but were not able to put points on the board.

With the game on the line, Moorhead got their aerial attack working as they moved 80 yards, mostly through the air, until QB Luke Gotta found space and scored on a 10 yard touchdown run. The Moorhead two point conversion was stopped leaving the score 7-6 with 30 seconds left.

Moorhead had apparently recovered the ensuing onside kick, but a player had illegally touched the ball within ten yards and that gave Sauk Rapids the ball, and the victory.

With the win Sauk Rapids-Rice moves to 4-1 on the season. Moorhead falls to 1-4 on the year with the loss.
