LAKEVILLE, Minnesota - The Lakeville South Cougars knocked off the first place team in the Lake Conference on Friday night, as they defeated the Eastview Lighting in an overtime thriller on homecoming, 21-19.

The Cougars got on the board first in this game, with Blair Riegel scoring from one yard out in the first quarter for the 7-0 lead.

Eastview then tied the game in the second quarter, with Karl Otto scampering 18 yards for a touchdown and the 7-7 game, which would hold as the halftime score.

In the third quarter, Lakeville South's Ethan Miller scored from five yards out for the 13-7 Cougar lead, but placekicker Travis Wright missed the extra point. This set up a potential win for Eastview later in the fourth quarter, when Jack McDevitt scored on a quarterback sneak to tie the game. However, Eastview kicker Peter Burke also missed his extra point attempt, which eventually set up the overtime chance.

In the extra session, the Cougars got the ball first and didn't mess around, with Gavin Duecker connecting with Grant Mitchell for a 10-yard touchdown strike to give Lakeville South the 19-13 lead. Head Coach Larry Thompson then gambled from the start, going for two on the conversion attempt, with Duecker connecting again with Mitchell to complete the conversion, and giving Lakeville South an eight-point lead at 21-13.

Eastview then got their chance, and they also scored a touchdown, with Rex Sanders scampering five yards for the touchdown and the 21-19 score. Needing to go for two, McDevitt's attempt was incomplete in the end zone, sealing the fate of the Lightning.

With the win, Lakeville South moves to 4-2 overall (4-2 Lake), while Eastview falls to 4-2 (4-1 Lake). Eastview will now travel to Bloomington on Thursday, October 15 to face Bloomington Jefferson, while Lakeville South heads to Apple Valley next Thursday. Both games can be heard on MSBN.
