FOREST LAKE, Minnesota - The Forest Lake Rangers ran their win streak to three with a 56-28 Senior Night victory over Park of Cottage Grove. On another beautiful Minnesota fall evening Forest Lake overcame three turnovers in a 60-second span of game action to run over and around the depleted Wolfpack.
Park only dressed 39 players, but that did not stop them from jumping to an early 7-0 lead. After the opening kickoff went out of bounds, Park drove 65 yards and scored on senior QB Kirby Quebodeaux's 1 yard run.
Forest Lake answered with a 65 yard touchdown drive of their own. Their touchdown drive was also capped by a run from their quarterback, as J.T. Jurasin scored on a 28 yard run.
Park was forced to punt on their next possession, but a bad snap was covered by Park punter Jordan Ijomah on his 33 yard line. It took Forest Lake only one play to take the lead. Sophomore RB Glen Miron sprinted to the endzone on the first play. Miron would finish with 7 carries for 48 yards and the one touchdown.
Another bad snap to the punter set Forest Lake up at the Park 13 yard line on their next possession. Tommy Tyson capped the short touchdown drive by scoring from 1 yard out. The junior, who also plays DB and returns punts and kickoffs, would finish with 3 TD's. Tyson carried 10 times for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also caught two passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Following Jurasin's 2nd running touchdown of the game, the Rangers had a 28-14 lead with 2:19 remaining in the first half. After forcing another punt from the Wolfpack, the wheels fell off for Forest Lake. The Rangers fumbled the ball away on their 19 yard line and Park scored with 30 seconds left in the half with the 2-point conversion cutting the lead to 28-22. Forest Lake then fumbled the kickoff and Park recovered but could only move the ball to the Forest Lake 15 yard line before the half ended.
Forest Lake received the 2nd half kickoff and promptly turned the ball over with another fumble on the first play of the half. Park took advantage and tied the game on a 5 yard touchdown run by Justin McGowan. The conversion was no good and it 28-28 with 8:05 left in the 3rd quarter.
From that point it was all Forest Lake. Tyson scored his 2nd TD of the game to put Forest Lake back on top with 3:14 left in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter the Rangers received touchdowns from Tyson, C.J. Franklin, and Dan Johnson, who finished the game at quarterback for the Rangers.
One sidelight to the game was each of the starting quarterbacks threw their 1st touchdown pass of the season in the week 7 matchup.
The victory moves Forest Lake to 3-4 on the year. They will travel to East Ridge for their last regular season game. Park is now 0-7 and will host Mounds View to finish the year. Due to the MEA break, both games will be played on Wednesday night October 20th.
