ANDOVER, MN - It took a safety and a 4th Quarter comeback by Senior Quarterback Tyler Finnes for the Andover Huskies (7-2 overall) to get the victory tonight in the Section Quarterfinals. #7 seed Anoka (2-7 overall) had the lead at the half 10-7 and scored on their first drive of the second half, using over nine minutes of clock time to connect on a 22-yard field goal by Senior Kicker Tim Strueve to make it 13-7 with 2:51 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.
The weather was a factor all evening as wind, cold, and rain played the 12th man for the game from start to finish. The tide turned for Andover trailing by six with 3:30 remaining in the 4th Quarter. It was a 4th Down punt snap that sent the ball through the endzone, resulting in a safety for the Huskies and making the score 13-9.
The Tornadoes punt after the safety gave Andover the ball on the Anoka 40 yard line. The final drive for the Huskies was capped off by a Tyler Finnes 5-yard Touchdown run and a good XP by Tyler McLaughlin to give the Huskies their second lead of the game and the eventual win.
Andover will wait to hear the final between #3 Coon Rapids and #6 Centennial to decide the location for Saturday's Section Semifinal. The loss will end the season of the Tornadoes, who had won two straight games entering tonights contest.
