STONE MOUNTAIN, GA - The Miller Grove Wolverines (2-0, 1-0) entered Region 6B-4A play tonight ready to handle region business and they did just that. After trailing 8-7 in the first quarter they woke up and closed the quarter with a 15-11 lead. That would be as close as Redan (0-2, 0-1) would get as it was just too much Miller Grove and not enough Redan as the Wolverines took over in the second quarter outscoring the Raiders 26-12 for a 41-23 halftime lead.
Tony Parker- this one 6'9 and maybe only going through a high school break up- lead the Wolverines with 18 points. Henry Brooks chipped in 15 with a couple of powerful dunks. Brooks has offers from the likes of Maryland, Georgetown, Xavier, Northwestern and Harvard just to name a few. Justin Colvin added 15 while Tony Evans and Brandon Morris each went for 8 points as the Wolverines cruised to a 75-39 win.
Redan did very little to give Miller Grove problems after the first 3 minutes of action as they failed to attack Miller Grove who had a decisive size advantage in the post. D.Watkins lead Redan with 18 points and was the only double figure scorer for the Raiders.
Miller Grove finished 27-6 last season and were the Georgia 4A state champions. Four of their six losses were to out of state opponents while one was to Georgia's 5A state champ Milton, who they will face December 4th at Wheeler High School in the Nike Showcase a day after a state championship game rematch against Mays. Milton is currently ranked #1 nationally by USA Today and defeated #20 Norcross 72-66.
In Ladies action... The 2009-10 5A State Runner-up Redan Lady Raiders defeated the Miller Grove Lady Wolverines 62-48. Redan dropped to class 4A after reclassification this year and had their 56 game winning streak ended by state power Norcross in the 5A title game last season.
