STONE MOUNTAIN, GA - After suffering an unnecessary 57-53 defeat at the hands of the North Atlanta Warriors earlier in the week on Tuesday, the Redan Raiders rallied on Friday night like the stock market in a game of constant shifts, winning in the final moment. Daryl Watkins drew lines in the sand for the Raiders scoring 17 pts. in the final period. With 9.2 seconds left in the game, Lakeside's Frank Tanefo scored on a lay-in, tying the wild contest at 66-66. However on the next Redan possession, guard Anthony Baker, possibly the shortest player on the court, was underneath the basket to clean up an airball courtesy of Darryl Watkins and banked the ball in as time exhausted on the clock for an exciting 68-66 win.
The Raiders overcame a deficit from the third period of play after the Vikings went on 14-2 run using a high paced attack wth the press and solid offensive sets taking 39-38 lead at the end of the period. However ,Redan was able to tire out the Lakeside squad in the fourth along with Watkins' stellar play and clutch free throws. Watkins led all scorers with 22 in the contest. Nathan Riley led Lakeside with 16.
Also in Girls action: Redan's Lady Raiders ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA dominated Lakeside for a 76-14 win. A memorable night for all on hand to witness senior Kierra Page score her 1000th point in her prep career. She is undecided on her college of choice. However the Lady Raiders were led in scoring by freshman Jada Byrd with 15 points, Page scored 14. Bad weather on the eastern seaboard during the holidays prevented the Lady Raiders from traveling to the DMV Legends Tournament in the nations capitol, so this was their first game action in weeks. The Lady Raiders are a nationally respected program led by Alabama signee Anessah Daniels.
