ATLANTA, GA - UPDATED: Dr. Krop would later forfiet this game giving Miller Grove the win as Dr. Krop played with an illegible player.
National power Miller Gorve arrived at the the gym at 3:45pm for a scheduled 4pm tip off. Needless to say they never showed up as Dr. Krop (FL) handed the Wolverines their first loss of the season in a 70-63 setback.
Dr. Krop (20-2) which came in ranked as high as No. 24 in the ESPNRIse poll and No. 36 by Rivals jumped on Miller Grove from the opening tip. Kansas State signee Angel Rodriguez had 16 points with 7 explosive points in the third quarter and opened the fourth with a right wing three-pointer that pretty much sealed the deal. Starter Cody Mann tossed in 16 while Bryan Delaney added 16 off the bench for Dr. Krop (FL).
Miller Grove, who was highly ranked in many national polls from No.3 in Rivals and ESPNRise to No.4 in the USA Today Super 25, never saw a lead as Krop jumped on them from the opening tip. Krop led by as many as 15 points before making a fourth quarter rally to close to within six at 66-60 with under two minutes to play. That would be as close as the Wolverines would get as Angel Rodriguez iced the game from the line. Tony Parker lead the Wolverines with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Miller Grove (16-1) fell a couple of spots in the national rankings to No.6 in the USA Today Super 25 and No. 12 in the ESPNRise (the latest Rivals polls are not out yet). The slight fall is more about the schedule that Miller Grove has played. They have so far defeated nationally ranked and defending Georgia 3A champion Columbia, defending 5A Georgia champion Milton, were winners at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC , Georgia 4A power Tucker and Marshall of Ohio. If anything their "national championship" hopes took a shot but there is still plenty of basketball left to play on the high school level throughout the nation.
Miller Grove bounced back with wins over region opponents Marist and Carver of Atlanta to improve to 18-1. The Wolverines have six regular season games left and still the heavy favorite to run the table and win another 4A state title so the "national championship" hopes aren't totally shot.
