AMES, IA - For the second straight game, the Kansas City Stars played a strong defensive game, not allowing a goal en route to a 3-0 win over the Des Moines Capitals in the Midwest High School Hockey League JV championship semifinals. The Stars advance to the championship game tomorrow against the second seeded Des Moines Oak Leafs.
Like the Stars, the Oak Leafs have also not allowed a goal in the tournament, winning their two games by a combined score of 16-0.
For Kansas City, the shutout streak isn't limited to just this weekend. The Stars have actually gone 5 straight games without allowing a goal, going back to the regular season. The last Stars goal allowed dates back to February 13 against Sioux City - a scoreless streak of 229:58.
Logan Lopicka was again the sole offense for the Stars, getting all three goals for Kansas City, including an empty netter with 13 seconds to play to complete the hat trick.
The championship game is scheduled for 11:30a tomorrow at the ISU Ice Arena.
