AMES, IA - The Kansas City Stars proved the adage that if you don't allow any goals, you can't lose, with their third straight shutout of the tournament in a 1-0 win over the Des Moines Oak Leafs to win the Midwest High School Hockey League JV title.
The Stars finished off the season with 6 shutouts.
Stephen Sundberg was the net minder in all three tournament goose eggs, while Logan Lopicka scored 4 out of the 5 Stars' goals this weekend. Josh Kirby was the hero of the championship game, however, scoring on a 5-on-3 power play just over 4 minutes into the third period for what would be the only goal of the game.
The Stars take their first MHSHL title in their fourth year of play in the league. They finish the season with only one loss.
