Maple Grove Outlasts Centennial

MAPLE GROVE, MN - Maple Grove stops a 2 game losing streak in an impressive win over Centennial tonight, halting a 2 game winning streak by the Cougars. Tonight was one of those nights with lots of scoring and never a lead by more than 7. Of the 8 offensive possessions in the 1st half, 6 resulted in touchdowns and the other 2 turnovers. The Crimson got things started with a touchdown from Dan Butorac when he caught a 19 yard pass from Brady Jacobs. Centennial answered back with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Evan Ostergren to Michael Diggins. Centennial also scored on 2 touchdowns from Ben LaMere, including a nice 'hook and ladder' play of 41 yards. Maple Grove scored 2 more touchdowns by Brycen Wojita and Luke Piche. All extra points were successful by Centennial's Jorge Gonzalez and Maple Grove's Brycen Wojita. Halftime score 21-21.

In the 2nd half, Brycen Wojita put the Crimson up again with a 40 yard touchdown reception with 8:45 left in the game. Ben LaMere answered back with a 43 yard touchdown reception of 43 yards to tie it up at 28-28 with 2:25 on the clock. This touchdown followed a critical 1st down run by the Cougar quarterback Ostergren who scrambled along the sidelines on a 4th and 6. Maple Grove then scored the final touchdown of the night when Luke Piche found his way to the end zone from 11 yards out with 10.9 seconds remaining. On Centennial's final play of the game, Ostergren's pass was picked off by Roman Collins of the Crimson, sealing the victory on Senior Night in Maple Grove.

Maple Grove: Ben LaMere 3 TD's including the final go-ahead touchdown.
