Freshmen Point Guard Danyele Hoffman

 
LAIE, Hawaii - Freshman point guard Danyele Hoffman broke her own school record for assists tonight as the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team defeated Dominican 94-74 tonight in a Pacific West Conference game. Hoffman handed out 11 assists in the first half as the Seasiders built a 49-32 lead and finished with 15 as the team cruised to its second straight win.

Hoffman set the record of 13 assists twice in games earlier this season. Her 15 assists tonight matches the men’s all-time single game assist record at BYU-Hawaii, owned by Robbie Nielson and set back in November of 1982. Shayla Washington scored 31 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead BYU-Hawaii. Brianna Jessop tallied a season-high 20 points on 8-11 shooting and also grabbed eight rebounds.

Taylor Mann finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots for the Seasiders. Tessa Carter came off the bench to hit four three-pointers and score a season-high 16 points, and Jessica Hancock, who started in place of the injured Danna Lynn Hooper, went 3-3 from long range for nine points. Hoffman came up with four steals to go with her assist record.

With the win, the Seasiders improved to 5-16 for the season and 4-9 in the PacWest. Dominican, now 4-20 for the year and 3-11 in the PacWest, was led by Kimi Nakamura with 26 points and Stephanie Carnes with 19 points.

BYU-Hawaii will face Grand Canyon on Monday at 4:30 pm MST in Phoenix, Arizona in a Pacific West Conference game.
