AMES, IA - For the first time in franchise history, Kansas City finds itself playing for a varsity championship in the Midwest High School Hockey League after defeating the Quad City Blues 4-1 today at the ISU Ice Arena in Ames.

Kansas City never trailed in the game as Jeffrey Anderson's shot from the point deflected off a Blues player in the first to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. The Blues tied it at 1 with their own deflected shot from the point, and the first period ended 1-1.

Penalties would have seemed to have gotten the Jets in trouble in the second, but a pair of shorthanded goals by Logan Lopicka gave KC a 3-1 lead. A late power play goal by Nick Hart with 14 seconds to go sent the Jets to the locker room with a 4-1 lead.

The third period was scoreless, sending the Jets to the finals, where they'll face the top seed Waterloo tomorrow at noon.
