MOORHEAD, Minnesota - It was a cold, windy night that turned snowy in the second half at Jim Gotta Stadium in Moorhead. With conditions on the field muddy and sloppy, the Moorhead Spuds and Bemidji Lumberjacks battled for a victory, with the Lumberjacks coming out on top thanks to a few key plays by Senior running back Czar Woods.

With both offenses sputtering through much of the first two quarters, Czar Woods finally broke one and rumbled 57 yards down to the Spuds 1 yard line, setting up Kevin Nelson's one yard plunge for the first score of the game at 8:05 of the second quarter.

On the ensuing possession, the Spuds had a punt blocked, giving good field position right back to Bemidji. They capitalized when Woods punched in what proved to be the winning touchdown with 1:44 left before the half.

Moorhead came out strong in the second half, three times driving within the Lumberjacks ten yard line, but the Bemidji defense came up big with 3 consecutive stops to keep the Spuds scoreless.

Moorhead running back Matt Duginski, a 5'10" 190 pound junior, made some big plays with his feet but the Spuds offense consistently stalled in the redzone. Moorhead QB Luke Gotta finally got the Spuds on the board with just a few minutes to play in the game, but the onside kick was recovered by Bemidji, who ran out the clock for the victory.

The player of the game, predictably, was Czar Woods, who put up 75 yards on 12 carries with 1 touchdown on the ground.

Moorhead (2-5) will head to St.Cloud Tech next week. The Lumberjacks (3-4) will take on Roccori.
