EDEN PRAIRIE, Minnesota - The section six title has once again found a residence at Eden Prairie High School. The Eagles (10-0) had four touchdowns of at least 28 yards to cruise to a 38-0 win over Minnetonka at Eden Prairie.
The Eagles got the ball first and wasted no time, scoring 1:39 into the game when Gage Shaeffer broke a 50 yard run for the touchdown. The Skippers (8-3) defense would stiffen up and force the Eagles into three straight punts, but the Minnetonka offense was unable to take advantage. The visiting Skippers would punt on their first four possessions, and on the fourth punt, Jordan Price dazzled with a 55 yard punt return that featured several nifty moves on his way to the endzone. After a fumble on Minnetonka’s ensuing possession, David Platner kicked a 29 yard field goal to make it 17-0, which was the score at the half.
The Eden Prairie defense continued to dominate in the second half, forcing five more Skipper punts and grabbing an interception before Minnetonka finally scored with 1:06 left in the game. Meanwhile, the offense kept on chugging. T.J. Fischer had a 28 yard touchdown run for Eden Prairie in the third and Shaeffer tacked on scores covering 30 yards and one yard in the fourth for the 38-7 final.
Shaeffer finished the night with 14 carries for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns and was named the MSBN Player of the Game for Eden Prairie. Sophomore running back Andrew Larson also had a standout game for the Eagles, gaining 113 yards on 13 carries. Minnetonka quarterback Tom Ahrens took the MSBN Player of the Game honors for the Skippers by completing 12 passes in 20 attempts for 177 yards and an interception. Eden Prairie’s season continues in round one of the State playoffs when they face Wayzata at the Metrodome, a game that will be carried on MSBN.
