MAPLE GROVE, MINN., NW Suburban Conference - The Blaine Bengals rolled into Maple Grove to face the Crimson led by quarterback Eric Kline, who looked to have a repeat performance of his week one showing in which he scored five touchdowns. While that proved to be a hard act to follow, Kline still managed to account for all four of the Bengals' touchdowns, throwing for two and running for two in his teams' 27-6 victory.
The Bengals did much of their scoring in the first quarter, with three touchdowns that each tallied over 30 yards per play. The first was a 33-yard touchdown run for Kline in which he took the snap and optioned out before weaving his way to the end zone. The second score came via the air attack, as Kline hooked up with senior wideout Nathaniel Mortenson on a 40-yard strike. The final score of the quarter came on a play with time expired (due to a penalty) which saw Kline hook up with week one star Michael Deveaux on a 39-yard touchdown strike.
Maple Grove was finally able to muster some offense for the first time all season in scoring on a beautiful pass from quarterback Patrick Schommer to tight end Skylar Ellingson. The extra point was no good, and the halftime score was 20-6.
The lone scoring in the second half was a four-yard run by Kline, which pushed the score to 27-6, which was the final. Players of the game were Kline for Blaine, and Ellingson for Maple Grove.
Blaine returns home next week to face Champlin Park while Maple Grove will face Centennial.
