YAKIMA, Washington - The Yakima Mavericks opened up the 2012 Season with a 54-16 vicotry over the visiting Tacoma Invaders. Kenny Peterson started the night off with 4 straight runs of 12+ yards each. The Mavericks scored on each of their first 2 drives and never looked back as all 3 teams (offense, defense, and special teams) kept the Invaders on their heels all night long. It was not until under 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter that the Invaders even got into Yakima's half of the field. John Lobbesteal lead the Mavericks multiple touchdown aerial attack and Alex Mahre converted a 47 yard FG that was true enough and long enough that it could have been good from 50+ yards.

Several hundred of the Yakima Mavericks faithful were on hand at Marquette Stadium to cheer on their team, and if Week #1 is any indication the Yakima Mavericks have got to be one of the favorites for the championship this year.

Next Saturday, 4/28, the Mavericks will welcome the Oregon Outlaws to Marquette Stadium before they hit the road for the 1st time this season. Pre-game will be at 5:45pm with kickoff scheduled for 6pm. If you can't make it out to the game or would just listen to one of the archives of a previous game, please just us on the Pacific Northwest Sports Network at www.pnwsn.com

Good luck Mavericks!
